Filipe: I’d like to retire at Atleti

Filipe Luis has revealed that he would like to spend the rest of his playing career at Atletico Madrid following his return from Chelsea.

The left-back spent a season at Stamford Bridge before heading back to Los Colchoneros last month and made his second debut in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad, which was marred by the Basques’ late arrival.

“I hope to retire at Atletico Madrid,” he said after the game.

“The season we won the League, Koke always played in front of me. I know his every move and how he plays.

“I always try to associate my game with his, and the truth is that the side on which we play doesn’t matter.

“The most important thing is the defensive work that Koke does, which makes my job easier.

“The player who surprises me the most is Tiago [Mendes]. He’s pure quality and very easy to play with. He plays for everyone in the team.

“[Diego Simeone and I] have spent many years together and doesn’t need to tell me much.

“I know his ideas [about football] because we started together at Atletico.”
