Escriba delighted with Getafe squad

Fran Escriba has expressed his delight with how his Getafe squad for the new La Liga season is shaping up.

The Coach was a latecomer at Coliseum Alfonso Perez following Elche’s demotion to La Segunda for off-field reasons but has nonetheless managed to secure deals for the likes of Emiliano Velazquez, Bernard Mensah and Moi Gomez.

“Honestly, we don’t currently have any major flaws, but there are many things to improve on,” he said at a Press conference.

“The team are working well and in the process of forgetting old habits and acquiring new ones.

“We have players capable of playing good football, players who grow on the ball, and being good with the ball must be one of our trademarks.

“I’m very happy with the squad I have. Until August 31, we will look at possibilities for signing other good players, but overall I’m very happy.

“We just want the season to get started and we’re all happy and excited.

“The players are working well, sincerely and with a clear philosophy, but the Coach must also adapt to the team’s needs.

“From midfield onwards, there are players who are better with the ball than without it.

“I want my teams to be balanced, and the players are understanding my idea of football very well.

“The ultimate objective is survival. I don’t want an agonising season, fighting against relegation.

“We will be a brave team and want to be comfortable all year round.

“I believe in a mix of experience and youth. Getafe came up 11 years ago and now we have a mix of experienced players and promising talents at the beginning of their careers.

“[Emiliano] Velázquez is a great player and an international at just 21. I always thought he would come back because it was his desire.

“Bernard [Mensah] is a great signing and the fans will love him. He’s thin but very strong, dynamic and strikes the ball very well.

“He seems even better in person and has tremendous potential. I hope he realises it.

“I haven’t decided my starting XI yet because everyone is training and competing at a good level.”
