Karim Benzema will reportedly miss the next three weeks with a thigh injury, ruling him out of Real Madrid’s La Liga curtain-raiser against Sporting Gijon.
According to Marca, the right thigh strain injury which kept the Frenchman out of the Audi Cup is more serious than first thought, rendering him unavailable for the opening-day trip to Asturia on August 23.
The striker had started just two matches in pre-season, against Manchester City and Milan, and was ultimately outshone by Jese Rodriguez.
Benzema, who continues to be linked with a €65m transfer to Arsenal, however, is expected to be fit for the visit of Real Betis a week later.
