Barca appeal Copa fine

Barcelona are appealing the punishment handed to the club for the interruption of the national anthem prior to the Copa del Rey final.

Jordi Cardoner, a Barca Vice-President, appeared on Catalunya Radio and, according to Sport, confirmed the club had made an appeal.

“We have an obligation as a governing body not to make decisions when temperatures are hot, but to think and consider a solution,” he said.

“We want to prevent these sanctions in future so that freedom can manifest itself.”

Cardoner also confirmed Barca are considering their position in light of the UEFA-imposed fine on the club for Barca fans displaying the Estelades flag, associated with Catalan independence, prior to June’s Champions League final.

“If after dialogue the expected result isn’t obtained, the board will meet to take a further decision.”
