Alcaraz ‘impressed’ by Las Palmas

Antolin Alcaraz hopes for an enjoyable spell at Las Palmas after the former Everton defender was presented by his new club.

The Paraguayan veteran has signed for the newly-promoted islanders on an initial one-year deal, with an option for a second, after his Goodison Park contract expired.

“I’m pretty impressed. I hope this is the beginning of a long and prosperous time for everyone,” Alcaraz said, La Provincia reports.

“I have great enthusiasm and I’m eager to start working with my new colleagues for this new challenge that I face, La Liga, the most competitive in the world.

“I’m happy to be here, happy for the opportunity Las Palmas has given me to compete with the best players in the world.

“I’m a little late in the pre-season. I’ve been training individually. It’s not like training with a team. It’s totally different.

“The idea is to return to fitness as soon as possible, but I’m not far.”

Las Palmas sporting director Toni Cruz revealed he had spoken to Toffees manager Roberto Martinez about Alcaraz, and revealed what the centre-back will add to the team.

“We talked about a player with a fantastic profile. He can help in our passing game and fits perfectly into our style,” Cruz commented.

“He’s very good with the ball, tactically, and has the ability to anticipate. We’re very proud and we’re convinced if we are lucky we’ll be surprised by this acquisition.”
