Vietto surprised by Atleti ‘unity’

Luciano Vietto has revealed that he was initially taken aback by the “unity” and “effort” of the Atletico Madrid squad.

The Argentine forward arrived from Villarreal for €20m in July and has already made a favourable impact on Los Colchoneros, scoring a winning Panenka penalty against Sagan Tosu last week.

“[What surprised me most was] the unity of the squad, how they work and the effort they put in every day,” he was quoted as saying by AS.

“Here, 100 percent is asked of you every day. It’s what allows Atletico to compete in the way they do.

“The most important objectives always entail the collective, rather than the individual.

“[On his Panenka penalty again Sagan Tosu], I saw the goalkeeper throwing himself to the side.

“I could’ve been right or wrong, but it went well and that was that.

“However, it won’t always be like that because if I do it again, the goalkeepers end up guessing correctly.

“There will be healthy competition, therefore benefitting Atletico. I’m fine with whatever decision the Coach makes.”
