Sergi: Enrique trusts me

Sergi Roberto says he has received assurances from Luis Enrique that he will be a first-team player for Barcelona next season.

The midfielder was promoted to the seniors by Tata Martino in 2013 but played a peripheral role in La Blaugrana’s road to the treble last term, having made just 14 appearances in all competitions.

However, he insists he feels the trust of the Coach to play a bigger role in 2015-16, even if he must play at right-back like he did against Manchester United and Chelsea in the International Champions Cup.

“Luis Enrique told me he trusted me,” Sergi said at a Press conference.

“What I want is to play games and help the team, either in central midfield or out wide.

“Playing out wide is a new position for me, but if I get more minutes then I’m fine with it.

“I hope to have more minutes than last season. Being versatile is good for me, but I don’t know where I’ll have to play to get more minutes.

“Last year I had Xavi [Hernandez] in front on me, now it’s Arda [Turan] but he can’t play until January, so I have a chance.

“I played as the pivot in Sergio Busquets’ absence [last season], and this year I have the chance to play out wide.

“The team have the same enthusiasm and excitement as they did last season.

“Last season, I’d have liked to be given more minutes, but this season looks different.

“I’m eager to play and win the other trophies that remain up for grabs.

“In two weeks, we have two finals. Last season was a great season, but now we have a chance to win two more trophies.

“After that, we have the Club World Cup. Winning six trophies would be great for the team.

“[On the return of the ‘MSN’], they’re very fit and eager.”
