Benitez happy with goalkeeping options

Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez has expressed his happiness with the goalkeeping options at his disposal, amid continued links with David de Gea.

Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla played either half of Los Blancos’ goalless draw with Milan in the International Champions Cup on Thursday, with the latter emerging as his side’s hero in the penalty shootout, and the Coach was quick to divert attention away from the Manchester United No 1 after the match.

“[On new signings], I’ll reiterate what I said before. It’s still early days and we must continue working,” he told reporters.

“Gradually, things will sort themselves out. We have a good squad but must continue working.

“If new players join then they will be welcomed, but they must be better than who we have.

“The conversations that I’ve had with [CEO] Jose Angel Sanchez and the President will remain confidential.

“[On David de Gea], it’s a question for [Louis] van Gaal, not me.

“In the first half, the goalkeeper was Keylor [Navas] and Casilla in the second.

“I started a good goalkeeper in the first half, another good one after the break and had a third waiting on the bench, the lad [Fernando] Pacheco.”
