Saul willing to be versatile for Atlei

Saul Niguez insists he has no problem being moved around the pitch by Diego Simeone as he just wants to get regular football for Atletico Madrid.

The midfielder was speaking after taking a central role in the friendly win over Real Oviedo and began by reflecting on the 2-0 victory.

“It was all very positive. We left a good image and the game was entertaining for the fans. It was important we kept a clean sheet,” he said, Marca reports.

“I played central in the lower categories of the national team and I played there for Rayo Vallecano too. I’ll play wherever the Coach tells me to.

“We all want to play more but we have to work hard and continue to develop. I’m versatile and here, if you earn it, you play.”

Atletico have this summer added a number of new faces and Saul said the arrivals need time to settle, but doesn’t see the team changing their approach.

“We have to have patience with [the new signings]. They have to adapt to a different style than their previous teams, but they’re great players with nothing to prove,” he argued.

“There’s more competition and the team will grow. That’s positive. We’ll continue with the same philosophy, but with faster players who will help us on the counter-attack.”
