Filipe returns to Atletico

Atletico Madrid have confirmed the return of defender Filipe Luis, a year after he was sold to Chelsea.

Filipe has signed a four-year contract at Vicente Calderon after 20 games for the Blues in a season that saw the London club land the League Cup and Premier League.

AS reports Atletico will pay Chelsea a figure close to €16m to bring the Brazilian back to Spain, while the player has welcomed the move.

“From today I am an Atletico player. I thank the family of Chelsea [fans, players, coaches, etc] for the great year I spent with them and of course thank Atletico for the great effort of bringing me back to this club,” Filipe is quoted as saying.

“I also want to thank the fans of Atletico for the outpouring of support and affection I have received throughout the year and especially these last few days.

“Now I’m only concerned with the orders of the Coach and to start working with the team and to fight to keep making history with Atletico.”

AS note Chelsea originally paid some €25m to sign Filipe, who played almost 200 games in his first spell at the Calderon.
