Atletico Madrid new boy Jackson Martinez has insisted “we can compete with Real Madrid and Barcelona” during his presentation on Sunday.
The Colombian striker, a €35m arrival from Porto earlier in the month, was unveiled in front of almost 10,000 Colchoneros fans at the Vicente Calderon, and he did his best to spur on their enthusiasm by claiming his side could reclaim the La Liga title.
“Do you know how many interviews you’re going to hold throughout the season?” he replied to one reporter, who quizzed him on how many goals he hoped to score in 2015-16.
“I can’t give a number, but everything will be fine if I work hard.
“[I’ve joined a team who are] committed and hungry. We can compete with Real Madrid and Barcelona.
“My best quality is playing for the team. I’ll be sure to give 100 percent in every game.”
