‘Falcao is Falcao, Jackson is Jackson’

New Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez wants no part of comparisons with Radamel Falcao after arriving in the capital.

Martinez has, like Falcao before him, arrived at Vicente Calderon from Porto, but says that and their shared Colombian nationality, is where the similarity ends.

“Falcao is Falcao and Jackson is Jackson, like you are a journalist and there are others. I’ll try to do well,” he said to reporters, according to AS.

“I’m delighted by this reception, delighted to be here and I’m ready to work and to get in tune with my colleagues.

“Anyone who doesn’t know about Atletico doesn’t know about football. They’re a powerful team that wants to keep growing with a style of play that has brought a lot of success.

“I think I can adapt to their game. That’s why they’ve signed me and everyone on the team wants to help the club evolve. The most important thing is to start the season well.

“I’ve talked to [Diego Simeone] and the best feeling will be to start training.

“I want to thank the fans for the welcome and promise my commitment and hard work. I want to help the team keep growing.”

Martinez was asked specifically about another Colombian, Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, and said he isn’t thinking about the derby just yet.

“What I want is to start working with maximum motivation for Atleti, and to give everything I have for the club and the fans,” he insisted.
