Real Betis are said to be confident regarding contract talks with Dani Ceballos, one of the stars of Spain’s Under-19 success.
Ceballos, Borja Mayoral and Marco Asensio took the headlines as La Roja won the European Under-19 Championships and ABC de Sevilla reports Betis’ sporting director, Eduardo Macia, is working on the midfield’s contract.
It’s said that only minor details stand in the way of the 18-year-old penning a deal until 2020 and Betis are set to make Ceballos the second-highest paid player at the club. It’s thought Ceballos’ escape clause will be set between €12m and €15m.
There has been unhappiness in the Ceballos camp as his escape clause was automatically raised from €3m to €12m, but his wages didn’t follow suit.
Ceballos’ current deal expires in 2016 and Marca add he caught the eye of big clubs across Europe with his performances for Spain.
Should he decline to sign a new deal and walk away next summer, the case would likely go to a tribunal to decide the fee Betis are due.
It’s suggested by both Marca and ABC that a judge would order a fee closer to €3m than €12m as his wages, as it stands, are at the low end of the scale.
Betis are therefore doubly keen to extend Ceballos’ contract, both to make the starlet happy and avoid that potential situation.
