Toni Freixa says he is keen to use his defeat in the Barcelona presidential elections on Saturday as a learning curve for the future.
The 47-year-old, the youngest candidate in the election, finished bottom of the pile with just 4.8 percent of the vote, but he insists the campaign was a success and could have been even better, were it not for the “excessive” media circus surrounding Josep Maria Bartomeu and Joan Laporta.
“We have learned that elections are not won in two weeks. This experience will serve us well in the future,” he told reporters.
“We had a constructive campaign, contributed ideas to lead the club and are satisfied [with the outcome].
“We are football people, sporting people and know how to win and lose.
“There was excessive polarisation throughout the campaign, in which two candidates [Josep Maria Bartomeu and Joan Laporta] grabbed all the media attention.
“The socis only started to meet last week, and I think the debate on TV3 was a turning point for us.
“The socis have voted in a conservative way. We know that happens at this club, where Mr. [Josep Lluis] Nunez spent 22 years as President, when there were no term limits.”
