Juanfran: Atleti will challenge

Juanfran believes Atletico Madrid are fully equipped to challenge for La Liga next season after a campaign devoid of any major silverware.

Los Colchoneros were crowned Spanish champions last year but failed to defend their title as Barcelona emerged as treble winners, but the right-back feels his side have made sufficient improvements to their squad ahead of 2015-16.

“We’re a team who like to work hard, reach our limits and surpass them,” he said at a Press conference on Friday.

“Our identity will remain the same, doing lots of running and helping one another.

“I know that Arda [Turan] was excited about playing for Barcelona so I congratulate him and wish him well because he’s a great friend.

“Koke is a vital player for this team and would look good in any position. He’ll adjust smoothly [in reference to becoming the side’s new holding midfielder].

“I’d love Filipe Luis to come back. He’s a great friend and player and I’m sure that the Vicente Calderon would take him back too because he sacrificed sweat for the shirt as much as anyone else.

"[On the new arrivals], some very important players have joined the team and we must forge a perfect understanding with them.

“It’s normal that [Luciano] Vietto is finding things a little difficult, but he’ll adapt well because he has incredible quality.

“On a personal level, I feel better and better every year and I’m convinced that next season will be better than last.

“I feel good physically and mentally and I’m confident that we’re going to form an Atleti capable of becoming champions. The Coach will get the best out of us.”
