Madrid to sign Casilla today?

Real Madrid are being tipped to secure Kiko Casilla’s signature by the end of the day after raising their bid for the Espanyol goalkeeper to €6m.

According to reports in Spain, the two clubs look to have settled on a fee, despite the Catalans’ desire for Los Blancos to send Under-19 starlet Marco Asensio the other way.

Madrid have made the signing of Casilla a priority following Iker Casillas’ departure to Porto and Manchester United’s stance on playing hardball over David de Gea.

Espanyol President Joan Collet recently admitted to RAC105: “We’re forced to listen to offers for any of our players.

“What [Florentino Perez] must do is value Kiko Casilla. He’s been capped recently and is worth a little more than the €4m [Madrid] are offering.”

The 28-year-old, who has been capped once by Spain, began his career at Madrid but failed to break into their first team and joined Espanyol in 2007.

However, Los Merengues retain half of his playing rights and are keen to take advantage of their ability to sign the player for a cut-price fee.
