Barcelona’s Lionel Messi has paid tribute to his Argentine compatriot Pablo Aimar, who announced his retirement from football yesterday.
The 35-year-old, who won two La Liga titles and the UEFA Cup while with Valencia, decided to hang up his boots after being omitted from River Plate’s Copa Libertadores squad.
“He retires as a great, he is one of my idols,” Messi wrote of his friend on his official Facebook account. “Pablo Aimar, I wish you all the best in your next phase of your life.
“Thank you for everything that you gave us to enjoy with your magic.”
