Baraja appointed Elche Coach

Elche have appointed former Valencia and Spain midfielder Ruben Baraja as their new Coach.

Although no contract details have been disclosed on the Valencians’ official website, the nature of the announcement suggests Baraja has signed a one-year deal.

The 39-year-old will conduct his first training session on Monday morning, before being presented to the media at 12:30 CET.

Baraja enjoyed great success as a player with Los Che, winning two La Liga titles, a Copa del Rey, a UEFA Cup and European Super Cup and reaching the 2001 Champions League final.

He also earned 43 caps for Spain, scoring seven goals, and represented his country at the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004.

His previous coaching experience came in the shape of working under Gregorio Manzano at Atletico Madrid in 2011 and managing the youth and reserve teams at Valencia two years later.

Baraja replaces Fran Escriba, who recently departed the freshly-demoted Segunda side for a return to the top flight with Getafe.
