Fabio Coentrao will miss Real Madrid’s pre-season after reporting back to training with an injury, according to AS.
The newspaper claims the Portugal defender was unable to take part in training on Friday, leaving him a major doubt for the trip to Australia on Sunday.
The left-back struggled with fitness problems last season, making just 12 appearances in La Liga and the Champions League combined, having been plagued with knee and muscle injuries.
With Dani Carvajal and new signing Danilo available to fill in at right-back, Alvarto Arbeloa is now expected to move over to the left and act as Marcelo’s deputy in the meantime.
The injury may also affect the 27-year-old’s chances of leaving Madrid this summer, with Manchester United and Benfica reportedly interested.
