Celta’s Lopez joins Sheff Wed

Celta Vigo have announced that Alex Lopez has extended his contract until 2019 but will spend next season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.

The midfielder started just 12 matches last season and has been subsequently allowed to further his footballing education in the Championship, subject to a medical.

The Owls recently appointed former Sporting Lisbon and Besiktas boss Carlos Carvahal as their new manager and are currently undergoing a mass overhaul of their first team.

Lopez, 27, joins an increasing Spanish contingent in the English second tier, following the likes of Raul Albentosa, Emilio Nsue and Aitor Karanka.
