‘Casillas departure to cost Madrid €15m’

It is reported that Iker Casillas’ potential departure to Porto could cost Real Madrid €15m.

The goalkeeper, who has been a Los Blancos player for his entire career, has fallen out of favour at Santiago Bernabeu and seems set for a move away from his boyhood club.

According to reports in the Spanish Press, the 34-year-old has agreed to join the Portuguese outfit provided the two clubs can agree on a deal for him.

Casillas, it is said, would join the Dragoes on an initial two-year contract with the option of another. He would be paid €5m pre-tax a season.

Part of the deal would involve Madrid allowing their shot-stopper to head to Portugal’s second city on a free transfer, despite him having two years remaining on his contract. They are reportedly willing to do so out of loyalty to a player who has represented them at first team level for the past 16 years.

However, the 10-time European champions would also have to be prepared to continue paying a significant amount of Casillas’ wages.

The terms of his current contract with Los Blancos would reportedly entitle him to earn a total of €25m pre-tax over the next two seasons. With Porto only offering the player €10m gross over the same period and Casillas said to be unwilling to take a pay-cut, Madrid would have to pay the difference.
