Official: Arda to Barca for €41m

Barcelona have announced the signing of Arda Turan for €41m but can sell the midfielder back to Atletico Madrid before July 20.

Speculation over the past week claimed La Blaugrana’s interim board were mulling over whether to sanction a deal for the Turkey international, but they have now decided to give their approval.

A statement on Barca’s official website also states that the new board would be able to sell Arda back to Atleti if they did not want him, although the Catalans would incur a 10 percent premium amounting to €4.1m.

Arda joined Atleti in 2011 and went on to become a key player at the Vicente Calderon, most notably helping the side lift the Primera title last year.

Barca, meanwhile, have been on the lookout for midfield reinforcements following Xavi Hernandez’s departure to Al Sadd and have plumped for the 28-year-old, despite being heavily linked with Paul Pogba.

Presidential candidate Josep Maria Bartomeu publicly stated his desire to sign Arda, citing him as a request of Coach Luis Enrique.

Barca’s transfer ban also means the former Galatasaray man, who has agreed a five-year contract, cannot make his debut until January, along with fellow new boy Aleix Vidal.

An initial €34m will be paid to Los Colchoneros, with €7m set aside in the way of add-ons to ensure that the player’s release clause is met.
