Gaitan expecting Benfica stay

Nicolas Gaitan has insisted that he expects to stay at Benfica this summer, despite refusing to comment on links with Atletico Madrid.

Los Colchoneros were believed to be locked in talks with the Eagles over signing the Argentine midfielder, but the player has appeared to distance himself from such a move.

“I have a contract with Benfica and will stay at Benfica, of course,” he said upon landing in Lisbon on Thursday.

Gaitan, 27, has been identified as the rightful heir to Arda Turan, while his arrival would force out Angel Correa due to the club exceeding their quota of three non-EU spots.
