Schmeichel: United can’t lose De Gea

Peter Schmeichel says Manchester United must fight “tooth and nail” to keep David de Gea from under Real Madrid’s noses.

The 24-year-old continues to be heavily linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, more so now given that his contract expires next summer and could be poached for a cut-price fee, and the legendary Dane believes the Red Devils will regret not doing everything they can to meet his demands.

“I would be upset if he left this summer because I’m certain he could go on to make multiple hundreds of appearances for United – and end up winning more medals than me,” he told the Sun on Sunday.

“Whatever David would want in a new contract, if I were [Louis] van Gaal, I would fight tooth and nail to keep him happy in Manchester.

“Let’s face it, the number of games where David saved United three points or one point is the reason why they were fourth in the table. He has just been unbelievable.”
