Bartomeu: Paralysis not an option

Josep Maria Bartomeu insists Barcelona cannot afford to “paralyse our transfer activity and give the edge to our rivals” in light of their presidential elections.

The 52-year-old relinquished the presidency earlier in June ahead of the elections on July 18, but La Blaugrana continue to be run on a daily basis by an executive board, and he believes business must be as usual as the transfer window prepares to officially re-open.

“We can’t paralyse our transfer activity and give the edge to our rivals, like Real Madrid,” he said at a club function on Sunday.

“They are watching players in the market and completing signings.

“The executive board must be able to perform operations that benefit the club.

“They must continue working to make the team more competitive next season.”
