Vazquez to return to Madrid?

Lucas Vazquez could be set to return to Real Madrid despite Espanyol confirming their intention to sign the winger on a permanent basis.

AS suggest that Rafa Benitez has asked for Vazquez to be brought back this summer but Espanyol have already said they will pay Madrid the €500,000 needed to keep him another year.

Espanyol had until June 30 to make a decision on Vazquez and would have needed to pay €1m by summer 2016 to sign him outright.

Madrid could then have bought Vazquez back for double what Espanyol paid – in this case, €3m on a total €1.5m fee – but Benitez’s request appears to have changed the situation.

Los Blancos could offer to pay the same €3m now and bring Vazquez back to Santiago Bernabeu. Cash-strapped Espanyol would benefit both from the injection of funds and essentially saving the €1m they would have paid within a year.

Madrid may also offer to reduce their 50% share of Kiko Casilla’s rights in exchange for Espanyol agreeing to let Vazquez return, or allow Espanyol to take their pick of Castilla players.
