Getafe out of relegation danger

Getafe are out of danger of an administrative relegation after President Angel Torres made a €7m payment to the tax authorities.

It was feared the Madrid-based club could go the way of Elche, sent to the Segunda for financial reasons despite securing their top-flight status in the League campaign.

But Marca reports that Torres has staved off the Treasury and now the pressing concern is the players’ wages, which are due on July 31.

Agreements are in place with each of the squad that should see El Geta meet their obligations, even the highest-paid players such as Pedro Leon.

Torres is said to have dipped into his own pocket to help the club with the intention of keeping Getafe solvent until the new TV rights deal takes effect and helps the club grow.

There are also agreements with the club’s creditors, including investment fund Doyen, which has helped stabilise the situation.
