Manchester United will look to exploit Sergio Ramos’ unrest at Real Madrid by offering a five-year contract worth a total of €55m.
It was on Wednesday reported that Ramos had met with Madrid general manager Jose Angel Sanchez and expressed his desire to leave Santiago Bernabeu.
Ramos is said to be unhappy at the contract renewal offered by the club and at the leaks from the Bernabeu that have attempted to paint him as a money-grabber.
United have already been linked with a move for the centre-back, as part of Madrid’s attempts to sign David De Gea, and AS reports the Premier League club are willing to spend big to get Ramos.
Madrid have baulked at paying Ramos €10m a season but United will offer €12m for Ramos’ first year at Old Trafford.
His pay packet would decrease by €500,000 each year to the point he earned €10m in the final year of the contract on offer.
AS say United have some €200m to spend this summer and have made a central defender a priority, with Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi and Mats Hummels, the Borussia Dortmund stopper, the first priorities, before the Ramos situation arose. Ramos is now United’s first choice to bolster Louis Van Gaal’s defence.
Ramos would be paid at the same level as United captain and star striker Wayne Rooney, at the very top of the club’s salary structure.
