Escriba Elche exit ‘imminent’

Fran Escriba will soon leave relegated Elche, with a member of the relegated club’s hierarchy describing the Coach’s exit as ‘imminent.’

Julio Martinez, Elche’s director of planning and management, said on Tuesday that Escriba was ready to terminate his contract with the club and all that was missing was his signature.

Escriba’s contract was due to expire in 2017, Marca note, but in recent weeks he had made clear his desire to leave earlier.

Elche’s enforced relegation was a factor in Escriba’s decision, it’s believed, while the penalty for Escriba breaking his deal was reduced greatly with the club’s drop to the Segunda.

Had Escriba quit with Elche in the Primera he would have been liable for €1m but that figure drops to €100,000 following relegation.

Martinez refused to divulge the figure the parties settled on but said it was an agreement ‘beneficial’ to all concerned.

Escriba was owed money by the financially-stricken club and Marca suggest he will receive that money in instalments.

The 50-year-old took over at Elche in 2012 and has been linked with the vacancy at Getafe, among other positions.
