Sporting transfer ban confirmed

Sporting Gijon have had their transfer ban confirmed for the new season with Osasuna punished as well.

Both clubs have been sanctioned by the League’s budget control committee for failing to pay their players.

Marca reports the punishment was ratified on Monday evening, taking by three economists and two lawyers.

Neither club was able to sign players in the last transfer window with Sporting overcoming the odds to return to the Primera.

However, any signings they do make will have to be players promoted from the youth system, free transfers, or players paid at the minimum wage, which equates to €129,000 a year.

Sporting could make other signings but would have to raise 25% of the money by selling players first. The same punishments apply to Osasuna, with the minimum wage for Segunda players dropping to €68,000.

Osasuna and Sporting have the right to appeal to Spain’s Administrative Court for Sport but no decision would likely be made before the start of the new season.
