Neymar leaves Copa America

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) has announced that Neymar will leave Copa America after deciding to comply with his four-match ban.

In a statement released by the body, the Barcelona forward will leave the Selecao’s training camp in Santiago on Monday, despite Coach Carlos Dunga giving him the option of staying with the squad.

Additionally, it also “expects the same consistency in all competitions” organised by CONMEBOL in regards to the severity of Neymar’s suspension.

The 23-year-old was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament for kicking the ball at Pablo Armero in the aftermath of Brazil’s 1-0 defeat to Colombia on Thursday, before appearing to head-butt Jeison Murillo and reportedly insulting referee Enrique Osses in the tunnel.

Brazil qualified for the Copa America quarter-finals thanks to Sunday’s 2-1 win against Venezuela and will now play Paraguay in Concepcion on June 28.
