Official: Depor sign Sevilla’s Navarro

Deportivo have confirmed the signing of experienced defender Fernando Navarro from Sevilla on a two-year contract.

The left-back, who turns 33 in five days, was released by the Andalucians, despite having a year left on his contract, and Marca claims the player has been personally requested by Depor boss Victor Sanchez, who is keen to add some steel to his young squad.

Sevilla sporting director Monchi confirmed on Friday that a deal was in the works, commenting: “It’s an issue that I can’t give too much information on.

“It’s 100 percent true that there is interest [from Depor], so there’s that possibility, but nothing’s for definite.”

Navarro started his career at Barcelona, before joining Mallorca in 2006 and then Sevilla in 2008, playing over 200 La Liga games for the latter at primarily left-back but also centre-back.

There is also the option of a third year for the Euro 2008 winner.

Depor are also closing in on a permanent transfer for Benfica loanee Sidnei, while left-back Saul Garcia is due to return to the club from his spell at Racing Santander after joining in January.
