Martinez ‘wants Atleti move’

Atletico Madrid have reportedly joined Milan in the race to sign Porto striker Jackson Martinez.

The 28-year-old confirmed he was nearing a move to the Rossoneri last week, but Marca claims Los Colchoneros could be about to steal a march on their rivals.

Martinez has also since been quoted by English media outlets as saying that he was waiting on an offer from Arsenal and had not yet made a decision on his future.

Atleti, meanwhile, have lost Mario Mandzukic to Juventus and are subsequently after a replacement target man to supplement Antonine Griezmann and imminent arrival Luciano Vietto, with Fernando Torres and Angel Correa as backup.

A club source reportedly told the newspaper: “There’s one on the horizon [referring to Martinez]. He’s good but expensive.”

The attacker’s buyout clause currently stands at €35m, but no transfer is expected to go through until he returns from Copa America duty with Colombia.

Atleti could also use Raul Jimenez in any deal, with Porto believed to be keen on the surplus Mexican forward.
