Neymar out of Copa America

Neymar will miss the remainder of Copa America after seeing his provisional one-match ban increased to four for his role in the fracas post-Brazil v Colombia.

The Barcelona forward was shown a second yellow card and subsequent red in Thursday’s 1-0 defeat for kicking the ball at Pablo Armero after the final whistle, before appearing to head-butt Jeison Murillo.

However, CONMEBOL’s disciplinary committee has now decided to raise the 23-year-old’s punishment to the extent that he will not play a further part at the tournament, along with handing him a $10,000 fine.

According to AS, the one-match ban was for two yellow cards, while the three extra matches were for his participation in the post-game altercation between both sets of players.

Brazil retain the right to appeal the decision within the next 24 hours but unsuccessfully tried to influence the committee’s hearing by claiming Neymar was provoked earlier in the match.

Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca has also been given a two-match ban.
