Juve close in on €18m Mandzukic

Juventus have reportedly agreed to sign Atletico Madrid striker Mario Mandzukic on a four-year contract for €18m.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Champions League finalists have identified the Croat as the ideal replacement for Carlos Tevez, who has been linked with Los Colchoneros in recent weeks.

However, with the Argentine seemingly set for a return to Boca Juniors, Atleti have since turned their attentions towards Villarreal’s Luciano Vietto, in turn paving the way for Mandzukic to complete a move to Turin.

The newspaper adds the deal could be concluded on Friday, although the continued possibility of FIFA placing a transfer ban on Atleti for irregularities over the signing of minors means no official confirmation is expected for another month.

Mandzukic joined Atleti from Bayern Munich last summer as Diego Costa’s heir for €22m and scored 20 goals in 2014-15 but scored his last La Liga goal in February and reportedly fell out with Diego Simeone.
