Unai Emery has insisted that Sevilla were always his first choice, despite confirming he spoke to other clubs before extending his contract.
The Coach renewed his deal until 2017 with the Andalucians last week but has come under fire from a small minority of supporters for refusing to pledge his loyalty to the club earlier, instead taking a week to assess offers from elsewhere.
“I’ve always been happy with my Sevilla contract,” he said at a Press conference alongside President Jose Castro and sporting director Monchi.
“I needed a week of reflection with the people close to me in order to assess the options and possibilities I had, while always putting Sevilla first.
“In no case did any of the offers exceed what I achieved with Sevilla, and I think hearing those proposals was a good thing.
“This week of reflection was in my contract and what I’d agreed with the club. The conditions offered to me by Sevilla were almost unbeatable.”
