Van Der Vaart to Betis on Monday?

Rafael Van Der Vaart could be presented as a Real Betis player early next week as his agent confirms a return to Spain.

Former Real Madrid midfielder Van Der Vaart is a free agent after leaving Hamburg and it’s believed personal ties have brought him back to La Liga.

Marca quotes an unnamed representative of the Netherlands international confirming interest from Italy that will be rejected in favour of Pepe Mel’s Primera returnees.

“I talked to several clubs in Italy but Van Der Vaart is signing with Betis. He’s a player who attracts interest form big clubs around the world but we didn’t look upon Italy positively. Inter and Sampdoria were interested, among others,” the agent said.

Van Der Vaart will, it’s hoped, go through a medical in Seville this coming weekend and be presented by Betis on Monday.

Eduardo Macia, Betis’ new sporting director, is said to have been instrumental in getting the veteran to Benito Vilamarin on what’s expected to be a two-year deal with an option for a third.
