La Liga kick-off times to change

Javier Tebas has confirmed La Liga kick-off times will change from next season to make matches more convenient for British viewers.

The LFP President told Cadena COPE that a request had been made by the League’s British television partner – Sky Sports – so that matches start at 5.15pm UK time, rather than 5pm.

British law prevents live football being screened between 2.45pm and 5.15pm and so viewers in Britain missed the first 15 minutes of any match getting under way at 5pm.

That will change from next season, Tebas revealed, when discussing the TV rights situation.

“Centralised rights come in from 2017-18. There will still be matches on Friday and Monday, but some schedules will change,” he said.

“There may be games at 6.15pm [local time] so they can be seen in full in England. For international rights we received €225m.”
