Pique: Barca have changed

Gerard Pique claims Barcelona “like to have the ball, but this season we also like to fight” ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final against Juventus.

La Blaugrana had been criticised in the two seasons that followed Pep Guardiola’s departure for their lack of defensive stability, but the centre-back believes his side are now much more secure than they were previously.

“[On what makes this Barca special], [Lionel] Messi, [Luis] Suarez, Neymar, [Andres] Iniesta,” he said at a Press conference.

“We have a great team, one of the best in Barcelona’s history, and now have a unique opportunity to show the world what we’re capable of.

“We’ll try to keep the ball, but [Juve] also want to play. They demonstrated that at the [Santiago] Bernabeu and had the courage to do it, so they’ll want to do it here too.

“We’ll press high up the pitch, it’s our style. We like to have the ball, but this season we also like to fight.

“It’d be a great year [if we won the Champions League]. If we win [on Saturday], it’d confirm a historic and perfect season.

“Regardless, we’ve lifted two trophies and reached the Champions League final, but we’re only 90 minutes away from perfection.

“We feel very close to the fans. Even if some haven’t got tickets, we still feel as though they’re here.

“We ask that they support us from their homes, bars … It’s a great final and I’ll do everything possible to lift the cup.”
