Report: Elche to be relegated

Elche will be relegated from the Primera for financial irregularities, saving Eibar, a report from Spain has claimed.

El Larguero say Los Franjiverdes will be demoted on Thursday for non-payment of taxes.

Judge Jose Ramon de la Morena will be responsible for condemning the Valencian club despite the efforts of new President Juan Anguix.

The report adds that the club had no Plan B as they expected their efforts to be enough to stave off the administrative relegation

Elche ended the season some 17 points clear of the drop but Eibar, who went down on the final day of the season, will stay up, with Fran Escriba’s side replacing them in the Segunda. The Elche squad will see its pay halved as part of the lower cap in the second tier.

El Larguero note however that this is unlikely to be the end of the matter, which could run and run throughout the summer.
