Xavi: Barca want La Quinta

Xavi Hernandez wants to sign off at Barcelona by delivering the club’s fifth European Cup with a win against Juventus in Saturday’s Champions League final.

The veteran midfielder was part of a Press conference on Tuesday afternoon and spoke about memories of past games, both those in which he played and those he watched as a fan.

“Of the three I’ve won, I didn’t play in the first and in the second I was able to remove that thorn,” he recalled, AS reports.

“Perhaps the second is my favourite for that reason. But this is very special. It’s my last game for Barca and I want to win. It’s a spectacular way to end my career and I want to finish by winning.

“[For Barca’s first European Cup, in 1992] I was at home. My brothers went to Wembley. I remember it being a game of suffering, and Ronald Koeman’s goal.

“More trophies came after that one and now we’re keen to get La Quinta.

“I’ve got the opportunity to play another final [whether or not I’m a substitute]. It’s the last match of my Barca career and a Champions League final is something extraordinary. I couldn’t have imagined this.

“My era isn’t over. There are a lot of players still here. I’m convinced the club will continue winning titles and remain competitive.”
