Van der Vaart offered to Malaga, Betis

Malaga and Real Betis are considering an approach for Rafael Van der Vaart, who wants to end his career in Spain.

Van der Vaart, formerly of Real Madrid, is leaving Hamburg this summer and would like a return to La Liga in order to see out his playing days in the country of his mother’s birth.

Specifically, AS reports the Netherlands international wants to be near Chiclana, in the south of the country, having spent time there when he was growing up.

Van der Vaart has previously hinted he would like to play for Cadiz but at best, the Andalusians will only be in the Segunda next season, assuming they are promoted.

Malaga and Betis, who return from the second tier for next year, are the nearest clubs to Van der Vaart’s preferred location, and both are looking for a creative player.

Wages are an issue, however, as he would become one of the highest paid players at Malaga and the highest paid at Betis, and both clubs would face competition from elsewhere.

But it’s possible Van der Vaart’s desire to play in Spain and in the region could tempt him into agreeing to whatever terms are offered.
