Costa ‘crazy’ for Atleti return?

Diego Costa is reportedly “crazy” about a return to Atletico Madrid this summer after suffering from homesickness at Chelsea.

The striker left the then-Spanish champions to join the Blues in a €38m transfer last year and has adapted to life in the Premier League seamlessly, scoring 20 goals in just 26 matches.

However, Marca claims that is not the case off the pitch as he is unhappy with life in London, specifically the rainy weather, language barrier and food.

Consequently, Costa has reached out to the Atleti board, whom he still shares an excellent relationship with, and made it clear that he wants to go back to the Vicente Calderon.

The newspaper goes on to state that the Spain international would also be prepared to take a significant drop from his €7m salary in order to secure an exit from Chelsea.

Atleti boss Diego Simeone is understood to be delighted about the prospect of Costa returning to fire the club to glory once more, having been reportedly on the lookout for attacking reinforcements.

Nonetheless, the chances of Costa leaving Chelsea seem remote at best as his manager Jose Mourinho would be loath to lose a player of his calibre.

The 26-year-old missed the last few months of the season with a hamstring injury but came back for Chelsea’s last two games to lift a second straight League title.
