Navas: I’ll stay for Benitez

Keylor Navas has made it clear that he will fight for his place at Real Madrid if Rafa Benitez, as expected, becomes their new Coach.

The goalkeeper was forced to play second fiddle to Iker Casillas for most of his debut season at the Santiago Bernabeu and has consequently been linked with a move away this summer.

However, Navas, who is currently away on international duty with Costa Rica, has hailed the potential arrival of Benitez and is keen to prove his worth to the 55-year-old.

“It wasn’t a completely negative year. I didn’t play as much as I wanted to, but I was able to train with the best [players in the world],” he was quoted as saying by AS.

“I always try to do my best. In my first season at Levante, the same thing happened as I hardly played, but then they changed their Coach and I had a great [second] season.

“Casillas? I don’t have any problems with him and we all respect him. At Madrid, we all want to play and it’s normal to fight for a place [in the team].

“[Rafa] Benitez is a great Coach and I’ll be at his disposal if he arrives.”
