Darder turns down Inter move

Sergi Darder has pledged his loyalty to Malaga for at least another season after rejecting the opportunity to join Inter.

The midfielder had reportedly been closing in on a move to the Serie A side, with Coach Roberto Mancini making no secret of their interest, but he has now made it clear that he hopes to stay at La Rosaleda, providing his employers can afford to keep him.

“It’s true that I talked and negotiated with Inter, but I’m out of them now,” the 21-year-old told AS.

“I intend to continue here [at Malaga], but if the club tells me one thing and my agent tells me another [in regards to leaving], we’ll see if it benefits everyone.

“When my agent told me teams [like Inter] could be interested in me, it gave me adrenaline and extra strength to go out and play.

“Any player likes to be linked to good teams, but Malaga are one of the best clubs around. As for the weather, fans, squad, coaches, we have nothing to envy.

“I hope to still be here when the season starts, but in football nothing is certain for anyone.

“I’m happy here, this club gave me the opportunity to debut in La Liga and I’ll never force a departure because Malaga have given me everything.

“If something comes up it’ll be discussed, but it must be good for both parties.”
