Zidane to assist Benitez?

Real Madrid could ask Zinedine Zidane to assist Rafa Benitez as the Napoli Coach gets closer to Santiago Bernabeu.

AS reports that while Benitez remains in Italy preparing for his team’s last game of the season, against Napoli, his representatives are concluding a deal to return to Spain.

Benitez isn’t going to bring with him his No.2 at Napoli, Fabio Pecchia, and tends to prefer a club man as his second-in-command.

AS note that at Inter he had Giuseppe Baresi, while at Liverpool he worked closely with Sammy Lee and Bolo Zenden was his lieutenant at Chelsea, and Pecchia is a former Napoli player.

Fernando Hierro was latterly assistant to Carlo Ancelotti but he is expected to leave a year after replacing Zidane, who took over at Real Madrid Castilla in 2014 after a coaching shake-up.

Benitez is said to want an assistant who can control the dressing room and improve his image among the Madrid fans, who have the ex-Valencia trainer as fourth on their most-wanted list of Coaches – behind Jurgen Klopp, Joachim Low and Michel.

But Benitez could be appointed as early as Tuesday although it’s not known if Zidane will accept the offer, but Benitez is happy with the idea of working with the former France international.
