Casillas ‘will welcome De Gea’

Iker Casillas insists he would welcome David De Gea to Real Madrid and says he rates him the highest of the Spanish goalkeepers.

Casillas has conducted a lengthy interview with El Laguero and his comments have been reported by AS.

When the subject of goalkeepers was raised, Casillas revealed he and Florentino Perez have discussed potential arrivals.

“I told him the ones I like, Sergio Asenjo or Sergio Rico. Right now, De Gea has the most expertise.

“De Gea is a nice guy and a goalkeeper for the present and the future. He’ll be welcomed here and we will help him. We’ll compete for a place.

“He can cope with pressure and his experience at Manchester United will have served him well.

“I’m delighted with competition. My contract doesn’t say I have to start. Gigi Buffon, Santiago Canizares, Andres Palop, all were careful and lengthened their career.

“Keylor Navas is a great goalkeeper and a wonderful person. He was fantastic at the World Cup and last season with Levante.”

Casillas was asked about his next step, if he could ever play against Madrid, and aspirations of one day running the club.

“You have to be very prepared to be President. Florentino is,” he warned.”

“In 10 years I’ll be a fan. I’d like to stay in football. The future? The best is yet to come.”
