Del Bosque praises Ancelotti & Benitez

Vicente del Bosque has lavished praise on Carlo Ancelotti for his work at Real Madrid and hinted that Rafa Benitez is the right man to replace him.

The Italian was sacked as the Coach of Los Blancos on Monday, just a season after winning the Copa del Rey and Champions League – the latter being their 10th European cup triumph.

The Spain boss has previous, given that he was also sacked by Florentino Perez, four days on from leading Madrid to La Liga glory, but he stopped short of criticising the President’s regime.

“Both personally and professionally, [Ancelotti] was a man who left his mark on Spanish football,” he said at a Press conference ahead of Spain’s matches against Costa Rica and Belarus next month.

“I can’t comment [on his dismissal], it’s a matter for the club who made the decision. I’m the least appropriate person to [comment].

“It’s not my decision to say whether Rafa Benitez is the right man to coach Real Madrid, but he’s one of the best.

“Xavi Hernandez will always be in our memories. He’s been a hero of ours for many years and we’re very grateful for his performances. We’re proud to have had him.

“It’s up to Real Madrid whether or not they sign David de Gea, not me. If they do then we’ll have time to address the problem [of Spain’s No 1].”
