Ancelotti to be sacked today?

Real Madrid have called a Press conference this evening, possibly to announce the dismissal of Carlo Ancelotti.

AS is running the line that President Florentino Perez will take to the Spanish media at 19:00 GMT to confirm the departure of his Coach, thus ending a saga that has engulfed Los Blancos since their Champions League elimination by Juventus a fortnight ago.

Following on from his sentiments after Saturday’s 7-3 victory over Getafe, in which he applauded the Santiago Bernabeu faithful, the 54-year-old told the Italian media he would take a sabbatical in the event he was sacked by Madrid for medical reasons.

Rafa Benitez is currently the clear favourite to succeed Ancelotti at the Santiago Bernabeu, and the newspaper claims the Napoli boss is waiting on a call from Perez, with Sevilla’s Unai Emery also in the running.

The Italian’s exit is sure to divide opinion, with many of his players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, making it clear to the Spanish Press that they wanted to continue working under him next season.

Milan CEO Adriano Galliani, meanwhile, travelled to earlier in the day, reportedly in an attempt to entice his former Coach back to San Siro.
