Barca unveil new-look kit

Barcelona have unveiled their home kit for next season, complete with horizontal stripes for the first time in their 115-year history.

Hoops had been seen on the jerseys of Barca’s basketball, rugby and track-and-field teams in the past, but Camp Nou will bear witness to this new design as of 2015-16.

“These new kits are a tribute to the pride of the club, the passion of their fans and their amazing sporting history,” Martin Lotti, creative director of Nike Football told La Blaugrana’s official website.

“The kits are a result of close collaboration between Barcelona and Nike and reflect a deep understanding of the unique cultural importance of the club and our shared commitment to revolutionising the sport of football.”

In similar vein to the past campaign, dark blue and maroon are again adopted, while the greater inclusion of blue on the shirt means a return to red shorts for the first time since 2010-11.

Reaction to the kit on social media has been mixed, with some users praising the daring concept, while others did not favour the change in design.

There have also been suggestions that the horizontal stripes were inspired by the Catalan flag, with the club only keen to stress links with the supporters’ flags on matchdays.

This can be seen in the continued emblazonment of yellow and red stripes on the outside of the collar and their ‘Mes que un Club’ motto clearly displayed inside.

The away kit, on the other hand, consists of a golden jersey, royal blue shorts and golden socks.
